Moving Ahead

The hubby is getting more excited every day. The vision in the eye seems to be slowly improving.  An air bubble in the eye, to increase the pressure, is starting to decrease in size making the area of vision better.  He explained it like a carpenter level bubble in his eye and until it started to shrink it was unnerving.  Now he is more confident about being able to see soon.  Of course he wants to cook and read now!  But it is a little too soon to leave him in the kitchen alone.

His visits to the counselor are helping with his attitude also and the only problem is a change in medication is giving us fits with bloodsugar levels.

But we are moving ahead and hopefully things will even out soon.

Help

Please look out your window!

I am looking for a naked bunny with a basket of eggs in his paw!

I know he is naked because as you can see below his white fur is all over my deck this morning!

Being A Grandma

I never saw myself as a grandmother.  My sons had children that as babies were adorable, but that was their and their wives’ doing.  You can’t take credit for that.  I held, I kissed, and I loved those babies with all my heart but I didn’t quite connect with them.  Even taking care of them still didn’t turn the light on.

It finally started to shine when I found I was needed to make something for them.  I could buy many things, but to devote the time to making something seemed to register with doing for MY GRANDCHILDREN.  Starting with nightgowns for Courtney.  Then came knitted slippers for them all.  Then costumes for clowning in parades, a poodle skirt for a dance, some miniature furniture for a doll castle, and dressup boxes for the girls.  This was something I could do for them and to be a part of them.

Now the 15 turkey pictures from different places with directions on the back for the location to be placed tell me that I am an important Grandma.  The cards from the store as well as homemade ones for my Birthday, Christmas, or just because they want to make something for me shows that I am an important Grandma.

What more can one ask for?  Below is Dakota Cree one of my reminders.

APRIL 7th thru the 8th

Did you ever have one of those days that lasted two days and you ended up so tired you just wanted to curl up and sleep for a month?
Wednesday morning, up at 6am, we headed to the hospital for Jay’s outpatient Vitrectomy.  The surgery went very well and we were on our way to brunch by noon.  Finish brunch and arrived home around 2pm.  We laid down for about 2 hours and at around 5:30pm I started supper.

After supper around 9:30pm Jay compained of stiffness in his legs and began to stumple as he moved.  It was time to run his evening tests so we started with the blood pressure.  It was ok but when we did the blood sugar it was 530.  Much to high and his walking became worse.  A call to the hospital had us on the second 68 mile trip to the hospital in the same day.

Upon arrival blood sugar stood at 492 so they started an IV and 10 units of insulin.  We waited about 1 1/2 hours and they check the level again (338).  So another wait with another 5 units of insulin and finally it below 300 so they let us come home.  We had left home at 10:30pm and arrived back home at 4:30 am.

We called the Retina Vitreous swering service to explain we couldn’t make the 9:45am appointment and at 5am fell into bed.  At 8:15am the doctor’s office called back to say we had to be in to check Jay’s eye before 11am to verify the surgery was ok.  So back on the road , this time 58 miles, and we were only 5-6mins. late for the appointment.  Out of there an hour later and we decided to see the personal doctor on the way home because the blood pressure was 169.

Finally at around 11:45 am we were back home and all this because he didn’t get his morning insulin on Wednesday morning.  It is something I don’t want to do again for a long time.  But I now appreciate Sweet thing’s helping me when I ended up in the hospital and she drove that stretch 3 or 4 times.

My Knights

Both my knights in shining armor were up this last week.  Les came up on the weekend and did his usual ‘undo the snafu’ that Momma created on her computer.  But the most important thing was he brought Courtney and Anne with him.  That meant someone beside me to listen to ‘grandpa’.  He just comes alive when company comes through the door.

My other knight, David was up yesterday and brought Sweet Thing with him.  I haven’t seen them in almost two months.  David took the snow plow off the tractor and put the mower deck on for me.  Then he and I moved the swing up to the side yard where the pig (propane) used to sit.  So now I can look out the kitchen window and remember to get out there and rock awhile as soon as it is warm enough.

Life is sweet.

Another Good Day

The 29th was kind of a great day for us.  The man I lovingly call the blind guy had enough sight to cook breakfast for us.  I assisted a little, but he took care of the majority of the duties.

Later in the day he drove the truck to the end of the driveway so I could ride on the back and pull the garbage cart down to the road.  Not a big deal for most people, but he had not been behind the wheel in months.  He drove the tractor down in the drive behind the house with no mishaps.  He looked like a kid behind the wheel for the first time with his Dad/Mom instructing him in a parking lot or on a country road.

I can only hope that this surgery on April 7th will allow a few more weeks or even months of sight for him.
