A Debt Unsettled

Some 67 years ago this little girl sat on a scarred piano bench and had her picture taken.  She had survived a fall from a second story porch onto a cement platform after a dog had jumped on her and caused the fall.  A broken leg and a fractured skull were the results of the accident.  The family Doctor said she wouldn’t last the night and he left to go home.  But she did survive and the little girl’s daddy said that he would never pay that doctor because he walked away.  Both the daddy and the doctor are dead now and the debt was never settled, but those are the things that life is made of.  The miracle of a daddy’s faith and a daughter’s will to live that was forgotten until this picture fell out of that same cardboard box in the closet!!

What a life has followed the day that picture was taken.  The happiness, the tears, the love, and the fears.  I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

About Momma

I was 77-years-old on February 22 and I'm amazed to see it. Mother of two sons and one daughter (Bloggers SEB and Cindyisms are two of them). Grandmother of three. Retired after 29 years+ at Michigan Bell Telephone and ten+ years with The Oakland Press. I was active with the telephone company union and a Dale Carnegie graduate. I work at crocheting, knitting, making ornaments, and other projects. With my husband I can 300 or 400 half pints of jam, chutney, plus cabbage relish, pickled beets and cinnamon fruit every summer to give away. I was clown doing parades, parties, and picnics for about 15 years. My other passions are music from the 50s through the 70s, reading, and of course blogging!
