Not Our Day!

That is what Brandy and I said today after a trip to the Vet’s!  It started when I went to climb into the truck.  It was icy underfoot and as I step up with my hand on the steering wheel.  My foot slipped on the ice.  My other foot came off the running board and I found myself falling.  I knew that would never do with my ankle still swollen and the danger of breaking something.  Hanging on to the steering wheel I reached for the door pocket with the other hand.  I slowly released the wheel and eased my body down towards the ground.  The hand holding the door pocket allowed me to slow the fall and as I hit the ground it was not even jarring.  A wet butt was the result.  Next came getting back up.  Jay took the step stool out of the backseat of the truck for me and went to the house to get a chair.  I managed to get the stool off the ice and onto the gravel.  I put both hands on the stool and was able to gain enough leverage to push myself upright before Jay got the chair.  Jay then was able to get into the truck and move it over closer to the bare spot on the driveway and I got in.  That was my adventure.

Brandy’s luck changed at the Vet’s office.  She was scheduled for a dental exam and a heart worm test.  Three days ago I had felt a lump on top her head so I wanted Dr. to check that also,  The lump moved and of course a little fear was growing in my mind.  The Dr. said we could have the lump biopsied if I would agree to having the top of her head shaved.  There was no option in my mind so off she went with the Dr. to the other room. There was more that one lump.  A few minutes later Dr. Buck was back with good news.  The lumps were zits that couldn’t come through the skin.  No biopsy just three stitches in the top of her head.  I almost cried.

The only one to who got away easy today was Mollie who only got a shot.

I sit here tonight hoping that we won’t have another day like this for a while.

Hope all is well with you.  I’ll be back!!!

  1. The ice has been quite a problem this year.
The ChiTrib had a half page article about all the hazards and how many casualties from falls.

    Let’s be careful out there…..!

I’m a bit curious as to why the doc would lance an infection, then put a stitch in.  It would seem they need to drain.
but anyway, I’m glad a lump turned out to be so easygoing…even the word brings on dread.

Have a good day—I’m off to a junior high working as a TA Sub.  After the ‘flu, it’s good to get moving again.

  2. So glad to hear that, after all that, you’re home safe and sound and able to give a ‘good’ report of the nasty adventures! SOoooooo glad you didn’t harm or break anything else!!! It’s been 2 days of both boys home due to ‘inclement weather’. Strange thing, that-I’ve driven to school both days with no problems! Oh well…both of you ‘ladies’ rest your ‘parts’ (ALL of yours, and Brandy’s poor little forehead).
    Love you!
    Hugs;
    Pammie

  3. Pam, driving a school bus over roads during ‘inclement weather’ is different than behind the wheel of a car of even my dad’s old pick-up truck.
Not to mention kids standing in freezing rain, waiting round the bend but the bus might be stuck in the mud (yes, that has happened in our district).

A couple weeks back, we had “freezing fog” and a pickup truck hit a school bus on the driver’s side, knocking her seat off its post.  There were still 15 students to get home, and their cell phones were going full tilt.
A parent, coming to pick up his child at the site of the accident, hit the back of another parent’s car, which then knocked down a bystander.

Yeah, inclement weather is no fun while in a supervisory position.  Better to be cautious.

  4. I would have cried. I think because I never had children of my own I tend to love Jackie and Angel more than most people would think of as “normal”. Once when I dropped Jackie, and she had to spend the night at the pet emergency hospital, I was inconsolable. I was up all night bugging the staff by calling every hour to see how she was doing. I missed the whole next day of work because I had to pick her up from the hospital and spend the day with her to make sure she was fine.

One of the first things I thought of when my wife said she was leaving me was that I was now going to have to face all the trials and tribulations of caring for those two little dogs. We actually bought them for my wife, but because they bonded to me so strongly my wife felt they should stay with me. She said she would “never separate them from their daddy”.
