The Golden Years Suck!

Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad!

Jay and I were asked to come down to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital to pick up our friend Richard and his car upon his release.  We agreed to help so yesterday when the call came we gassed up in Otisville and started down to Pontiac.

Richard is Jay’s friend from his high school years so when he asks for help we willingly oblige.  With gasoline at $3.64 a gallon we decided to add two other projects to the list. First with Jay not able to drive we had to pick up son Wes in Lake Orion to drive either my truck or Richard’s car back to his home in Oxford.

While at Wes’ we delivered a birthday present to granddaughter Jasmine.

She will reach the ripe old age of 17 on the first of May.  The years pass quickly when one is old.  I still remember buying talking doll houses for her and Courtney one Christmas.  Now she is into chalk art, photography, among other interests and will be a Senior in High School.  An early Happy Birthday Jazzy!

Wes and I went to the hospital and Richard was no where to be found.  So Wes called Deb at home to learn that Richard had just walked in the door.  He decided he was strong enough to drive so stopped at Wes’ on his way home.  So it was back to Wes’ to take him home and pick up Jay for the last matter we had planned to take care of while in the area.

Our lady barber of over 30 years had fallen down her basement stairs and shattered both bones in her lower right leg.

Shawn and I go back to when Wes was in his teens and she dyed his hair with colored cellophane (at his request).  Les had to sit on a board across the arms of the barber chair to allow her to cut his hair.  When Jay married ‘us’ he was added to her list of customers so it is no wonder that we still drive around 50 miles one way to get our haircut.

I had called the salon and was told she had an accident.  She called us Saturday to tell us what had happened.  I told her we were waiting for a call to go pick up Richard so we could come by and see her if she would like. She said certainly so I asked what I could bring her.  Home canned Pickled Beets and Peach jam was the immediate response.

So with the present delivered and the beets plus jam safely in Shawn’s kitchen we started back home.  In my mind I could hear a song the Meatloaf recorded a while ago.  It seemed so appropriately called Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad.

    Mary,
No wonder you and Jay are so loved.  The way that you reach out to others is more than just admirable, but at the moment I can’t come up with a better word.

I hope all of these dear friends have quick recuperations and that your beautiful grand daughter have a fabulous 17th birthday.

I came across your blog while researching lower leg trauma as I have tripped and fallen twice in the last week. I was scheduled for surgery on a torn meniscus two weeks ago and decided to wait till the spring as two cortisone injections took care of the horrendous pain. Well since then I have had these falls and landed on my bad knee, but worse than that is the injuries to my lower leg – cannot put my weight on it at all. I do have crutches from when the torn meniscus acted up. I turned 73 in January and want to wish you a very happy birthday. We are just a couple of spring chickens, enjoying life and our grandchildren. When this snow stops falling and we are cleared out a bit I will tell my daughter and probably get to the local hospital. I have a very high pain tolerance and am fiercely independent so I shall suffer a while longer. Your blog must have shown up because of your friend Shawn’s leg injury. I hope that this note will go through – I do not have a Website, but you seem like such a good friendly lady and I wish you well.
