It has been a stressful couple of weeks. The quest to regain the balloon twisting ability in time for my grand daughter’s graduation party has hung over my head. Every day I would think today I will practice but instead I mowed the yard. The next day I will practice but I chose to clean house. Two days of canning jam took practice time away.
Last Friday I said I will practice while Jay was in dialysis but a power failure at Davita made rescheduling of the appointment to 5:15 am the morning of the party. That Friday afternoon we had company which was very welcome. Les came up to check out a couple of computer problems and brought Zilch with him. If you are an SEB reader you know that Zilch is a commenter on that blog and is from Vienna, Austria. What a pleasant visit we had and what a delight to meet this man in person.
Back to the morning of the party—I drove Jay into his appointment then came back home to sleep another couple of hours before picking him up. Jay did not do well in dialysis and decided to stay home and rest. I packed up Brandy, the memory board, the gifts from Les, Mrs. Dof, us, and the balloons and pump. I drove the forty mile to my son’s home to find myself in the midst of several people I didn’t know and some I did.
That is what happens when you get older and move away. I did however meet Anne and Steve, who are daughter-in-law Debra’s parents for the first time. Also Debra’s sister, her husband, and son. But basically I sat with my daughter, Cindy, Brandy tied to my chair, and our family friend Richard,
It was a beautiful day, not too warm, with a slight breeze. Wes and his friend Greg were busy finishing the grilling and Debra was busy with making sure everyone had food and drinks. (Mine was a can of A&W root beer). In the process I forgot the camera I had bought along so the pictures are few.
This is the happy Grad! The picture of her in her cap and gown is nonexistent due to the temperature outside (and I don’t blame her).
As to the balloons, with Cindy’s help we made a total of maybe 8 or nine animals and a flower on on a stem.
All that stressing out for nothing! But I figure that we tried any way. I wouldn’t have miss the party because it was in Jasmine’s honor.
I have spent that Saturday evening and today trying to regain a sense of normalcy. Jay has taken care of the meals and I have sat and stared or slept the whole time. But it will straighten out soon because I have to be ready to start driving Jay to doctor appointments again.
I hope you had a good weekend and that you remembered the fathers in your life on Father’s Day.
It looks like a nice party, and the new grad seems typical teen as the honoree…
I’m sure she was glad to have you there, she seems like a sweet girl.
Wes and Deb been married long enough to have a daughter done high school, and you just met her other set of grandparents for the first time?
Sounds like our family, hardly anybody has seen each other since our wedding, what with living from Seattle to Washington DC, with West Virginia and Arizona tossed in…
Saturday morning I went to a rummage sale at a church up the street.
the Youth Minister was filling time
by blowing up long balloons with a neato little hand pump spout thingy
I would not have paid attention to him at all other than I have been reading here about your practice. But the device caught my eye, and he was talking the whole time his hands were twisting.
Anyway, he had to use 6 balloons, but ended up with a hat which looked like it was a monkey sitting on his shoulder.
I wish my camera was in my purse right then, but a picture of such cuteness might have been too much of a pin in your own set-up.
Get some rest…. then start a new week all over again.
And stop in at DOF’s Monday morning music
cuz the beat of that tune should get anybody feeling brighter
Wow, looks like a great time was had by all. Too bad Jay was too tired to go. He would have loved seeing all. Im glad that Cindy was able to help you with some of the balloon making. The Grad looks lovely. We had a Fathers Day picnic.
So glad you got to meet Zilch.
It was too far/too soon for him to come to Illinois this trip, but he promises next time.
the Internet makes communication easier, but driving the miles stays the same
Well done for getting all thoise balloon animals done Mary!!
Just to tell I went by coach down to our lovely seaside resort of Bournemouth, where the sea looked calm and great and it’s sweeping sandy beach too plus all the amusement arcades open and working and people walking the seafront. Reason for going was to see once again our Irish singer, Daniel O’Donnell, in concert. His last concert after touring England past fortnight and before
returning to Ireland to our there most of July coming. He had a rotten cold but managed to sing his heart out, tell us some jokes, and got through the evening. About 2000 people there, lots in their 80s and 90s, and he read out letters for two or 3 Diamond Weddings when he read out requests part way thru concert.
One joke he told us went thus: Three Granddaughters announced to their Grandmother they were going on holiday to Spain, to which Grandmother said she felt left out, so they agreed to take her with them. First morning in Spain the 3 young women came down to breakfast ready to go sunbathing topless. Grandmother was aghast, but off went the girls to enjoy their sunbathing.
The next morning the 3 girls came down to breakfast, found no sign of Grandmother. Might be out by the pool the said, so off they went to find her. Sure enough they found her there, and their eyes popped out to find her sunbathing topless too, everything hanging out so to speak!
Seeing their surprise Grandmother said, well I thought yesterday everybody saw the rose buds so today I thought they could see the hanging baskets!
The audience roared with laughter. Love to you all. Marion
Diane, Zilch said he maybe back next year again.
Marion, It sounds like a lovely concert and the joke was great. Thanks for sharing.
Paula, These treatments take a lot out of him but he was better Sunday.
