No Blathering!

I have been trying since 6:30 this morning to post.  First I pushed the wrong button and lost it.  On the retry I was about to preview when the lights went out!  So my dear friends I think I’ll just shelve it until later and try again because the goblins don’t want me blathering right now! See you later!

Jay made a cake yesterday Yummy the recipe is at Jay’s Jammin’

All Kinds Of Signs!

Back in 2003 I wrote this post The Night Before.  It was a fictitious tale but was based on what I actually saw in a lamp shade.  Well the other day as I passed the bay window this is what I saw.

It immediately triggered the urge to find my original post.  Not having a camera back then I had no way to show you the image.  My lampshade pumpkin face is just another reminder that Halloween is near and Spooky people like me see all kinds of signs!

Nary A Whole Apple In The Dome!

I started this morning at a little after 6 am to clean my stove and get ready to resume canning.  I peeled the other half of the apples I had and by 1:30 this afternoon I have 21 half pints jars of Apple/Rhubarb Chutney with dried cherries instead of dried cranberries.  I then put up an additional 14 half pints of Apple Pie Jam.  So there ain’t no apples in my kitchen. What is next?  Beats me but I’m sure we aren’t through yet!  I’m going to sit this afternoon in front of the boob tube or pick up Wally Lamb’s The Hour I First Believed

More Apples!

A bit of a late start on canning today so we were only able to do half of the half bushel of Early Gold apples this afternoon.

But we did come up with 10 1/2 pints of apple pie filling.

These are the last of the jars to go in the canner tonight.  But in the morning I will be peeling the rest of the apples to make Apple/Rhubarb Chutney while Jay is in dialysis.  My supper is extremely late tonight so I’ll close for now.  Remember to laugh out loud tomorrow your lungs need the exercise!!!

Transition Day

Yesterday was a transition day.  Time to pull on that shrug that Pammie made me.  Time to strip the bed, wash the sheets, and place them in the cedar chest in the closet.  I pulled the flannel sheets out and got them and the comforter on the bed.  I washed the new flannel sheet set that I had bought on Thursday so they would be ready to be used next.  While in the chest I pulled out some old sheets that had been patched and some plastic container bags, stuffed them in a garbage bag to be thrown away.

I have started packing the summer clothes away in boxes so they will be easier to find next year.

I finished the day writing checks for the monthly bills (always a pain in the butt but other people gotta eat also).

The air conditioner is out of the kitchen window waiting to be put away and the window cleaned for another winter.  Jay took the rest of the soups and the plain tomatoes down to be placed in the food room.  I finished taking down the pressure canner, a large cooking pot, and my small floor fan.  All are nicely put away and my kitchen is ready to start the apple project.

Our visit to Dr. Ross office has resulted in scheduling surgery on that left eye to remove a blood clot on 10/09/09.  Also Jay will see Dr. Lewis on Wednesday the 7th.  So it looks to be a busy week coming up.

I have to start thinking about where to put the two big plants that have been on the deck all summer.  They will need to be brought indoors soon.  Also the gas grill needs to go down the the basement or the shed. My plastic chairs, the umbrella table, and the metal plant stand must be put away.

There are a few things in the gardens to be taken in and I have to determine if I want to do one last mowing or two before the tractor gets picked up for conversion.

It is kinda sad to think about the changes that are coming up soon but we will make it through again this year.  Let me know if you have started your seasonal changes yet!
