Jamming Again!

Jars waiting to be filled!

Yes the canning kitchen opens again tomorrow morning.  We shopped today for fruit, carrots, sugar, cider, and pectin.  On the list of things to can are Dutch Apple Pie Jam (the stock is getting low), Apple Cider Jelly (we made only one batch of that originally), and something new–Carrot Cake Jam.

This evening I hauled 67 jelly jars up from the basement along with my jam cooking pot, my canning kettles, and all the utensils.  It plan on being a busy day or two but it is what I like to do.   Besides I should stay nice and warm for a couple of days.

I hope all my under the weather friends are starting to feel better.

About Momma

I was 77-years-old on February 22 and I'm amazed to see it. Mother of two sons and one daughter (Bloggers SEB and Cindyisms are two of them). Grandmother of three. Retired after 29 years+ at Michigan Bell Telephone and ten+ years with The Oakland Press. I was active with the telephone company union and a Dale Carnegie graduate. I work at crocheting, knitting, making ornaments, and other projects. With my husband I can 300 or 400 half pints of jam, chutney, plus cabbage relish, pickled beets and cinnamon fruit every summer to give away. I was clown doing parades, parties, and picnics for about 15 years. My other passions are music from the 50s through the 70s, reading, and of course blogging!

  1. And you wonder why I stay so busy? It’s what I ENJOY! Sounds like YOU are like me in that aspect, friend! Interesting flavors, especially the ‘new’ one; will be awaiting your blog report on the final ‘taste’ of the carrot cake one – did it meet your expectations, or not.

  2. Never thought about doing canning while it’s still winter. Supplies must have come from the Southern Hemisphere.
