Waiting For The Peaches

He beat me by 20 points but it was fun!

As we waited for the bushel of peaches we picked up on Friday afternoon to ripen a bit more we set them out on newspaper  on the dining room table.     So Saturday morning  we decided that a game of dominoes would be one way to pass the time.  We haven’t played in years and it was refreshing to sit and think about the next move and to challenge each other at the same time.  So I lost but it brought back some happy moments for us.

I also was tired of moving this around the counter for the last week or so.

Granny Smith wouldn't get lost!

So I weighed them and found I had a pound and a quarter and my recipe for Dutch Apple Pie Jam called for one pound.  Enough said–get out the canner!

Six 8 oz jars

The result were more than satisfactory and it didn’t take too long to accomplish.  Otherwise it was the usual Domestic Goddess chores that had to be done.  I couldn’t work on my stars because the dining room table was covered in one bushel of peaches.

It was Sunday before   we started the canning peaches and for the results please visit Jay’s Jammin’.  We worked hard that day!

So other than that the weekend was more of the same old, same old!  Today was an unexpected trip to the doctor because Jay had skinned a toe and things like that get looked at when you have the problems he has.

But we are now about to hit the tick so remember to to laugh and stay comfortable until next time!!!

A Cool Day And A Planned Adventure!

Wes and Debra came up yesterday and accomplished a couple of very good things.  Debra cleaned up the berm and it looks great!  Wes dug his old large window air conditioner out of my basement and set it up in the bay window–what a difference that made in the living/dining area.  I probably won’t use it today because it is supposed to be in the 70s.  But it is ready to go for the next hot one.  I will still have to buy a small unit for the kitchen soon.

This afternoon I will pick Jay up from dialysis around 2:30 and we will take a trip  to buy peaches.  I will have a picnic lunch packed so we can stop at a road side park on the way back home. Brandy will be going also.  I hope to see Cinnamon peaches soon in our food room.

The oxygen unit got changed over yesterday so Jay can be a bit more mobile.

Well it is 12:50 pm and I need to get the lunch made, a shower, and to put every thing needed for our adventure in the truck so I’ll close for now!!

Did A Dumb Thing!

Star #1 Of 6!

Went shopping with Cindy on Monday visiting three different stores.  Now I don’t like those riding carts in the stores and refuse to use them.  Consequently on Tuesday I paid dearly for all the walking.   I have developed a hitch in my right hip that grabs randomly and makes moving very painful.  Tuesday I tried walking on it to release it –didn’t work.  Yesterday I spent more time sitting as you can see by my picture and that helped somewhat.  This morning I have completed my early chores and have had only three occurrences.   So today will be another take it easy day.

I don’t about you but the heat and humidity is really getting me down right now.  It is partly due to age and being restricted in movement  but that doesn’t make it any easier to take.  I know I’m going to be getting a couple of small window air conditioners in here shortly.

Daughter -in -law Debra will be up this morning to return the jack stands Wes borrowed to fix the granddaughter car.  Hopefully she will have a few minutes to visit with us.

Also the company we have rented the oxygen equipment from will be here to change the large cylinders for the smaller ones giving Jay more mobility.  We will fill these smaller ones ourselves from a machine they supply.  So there will be no more having to watch for the hose as you move around the house.  Jay being able to walk around the store or take Brandy to the swing will be easier to handle also.

I thought I had mastered putting my sock on my left foot the other day but the problem with the right hip has put that on hold.  Oh well such is life and things will get better.

Take care and stay comfortable!

What’s Doin’

Good Morning!!!!

Well I have accomplished a little bit this last week of July!   I will return the Robin Cook novel that Jeannie loaned me a couple of weeks back.  It was Crisis and a good read! Still working (part time) on Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker but I know that will take a while.

More Jam Making!

Friday I turned 12 large peaches and two boxes of raspberries into 8 1/2 jars of Peach Melba jam, 7 jars of just peach jam, and 2 1/2 pints of peaches.  When the Michigan peaches come in I plan on canning  lots of Cinnamon Peaches!

Another Project started–the first of four cherry ornament done!

Three more to go!

I also set out the Star Project

Six stars in this kit!

I started this one this morning with the blue one.

Things have gotten a bit busy for me since Friday.  The doctor put Jay on oxygen so he isn’t able to go downstairs for supplies, run into the store when I drive, or take Brandy out without switching to a portable tank and pulling it around.  Brandy is concerned with the hose on the floor and is making a wide swing to avoid it.  Thank goodness Molly isn’t concerned with it at all.  The last time we had this situation she chewed on the hose.  There were duct tape patches all over it.  The important thing is it seems to be helping him feel better.  Just another little bump on the roadway but we will be fine!!!!

On the agenda for today is to go out to the berm and dead head the Cosmos.  Take a trip to the basement.  I should explain we can drive down and walk in through the garage door so I avoid the stairs.  When I get down there I have to get a few items for supper today and dinner tomorrow because Cindy and David will be up to help out again.  I’ll have Cindy go with me to grocery shop also.  No doctor appointments for a week or two so that will help too.  I think I will put out some thistle for the finches and suet for my woodpeckers because I have ignored them for a few weeks now.

Well let me know how things are going with you—well I hope!!!
