About Momma

I'll be 77 in February. Mother of two sons and one daughter. ( Bloggers SEB and Cindyisms are two of them). Grandmother of three. Retired after 29 years+ at Michigan Bell Telephone and ten+ years with The Oakland Press. I was active with the telephone company union and a Dale Carnegie graduate.

Back To The Mushroom!

Yes it was a sunshiny day and the bath mats got dry hanging on the deck railing and all was right with the world!  But then night fall came!

My world this morning!

Things like this make me not a happy camper.  There is a short grocery list on the kitchen counter but a driveway full of snow between me and the road 200 feet away.  I have four wheel drive so I will be able to get out but it would have been so much nicer to not have to wade the white stuff to the truck door.  Keene’s sent someone to take the tractor tire in to be fixed yesterday.  It was fixed and returned  but I don’t think any snow blowing can be done yet.  Ah such is Michigan in February!

Jay was bit shaky after dialysis yesterday which causes one to wonder just how well he actually is.  But I can hope that each day will bring more signs of strength.  He has appointments with his vascular surgeon and his lung doctor before the end of the month so we will be busy watching them watching him.

A surprise yesterday for me five days early.

A gift in the mail.

The note had our special spelling of ‘brithday’ that has been a family joke for years. Inside was this.

Another Deaver novel to devour.

My sweet hubby paid attention to my wish list!

My stuffy head has decided to ache a bit this morning so I think a session with the inhaler, that I put off yesterday, is in order.  So I will set up the machine and play caterpillar again!

Take care!

How Is It Going?

Just a short visit before it is back to the domestic goddess  business.  Outside it is sunshine as the snow is disappearing.  This meant the bath mats were washed and hung on the deck railing while I mopped the bathroom.

Sunshine though the windows!

Brandy is asleep on the floor with the warmth of the sun.  Molly just moved from the window sill to her chair and is snoozing in the sunshine also.

I have been busy the last few days creating another Frankenstein afghan.  It has knots not stitches in it.

Using big and small balls of yarn.

No particular color pattern–just trying to empty the big basket of some left overs.  I may even try to make it big enough to fit my queen size bed (we will see). The diagonal box pattern let you glance at the TV as the you work so you don’t get bored with either activity.

I’m experiencing a bit of stuffy head.  Having trouble hearing the phone ring so it is going the the answering machine a lot.  I tried putting the hearing aids in but they haven’t been calibrated yet so it isn’t really effective.

Jay is doing pretty good but still has some walking problems, some coughing, and I’m sure it will be a while before he is back to normal.  But I must confess he has started cooking breakfast again and I love it!

Well it is almost time to make Jay’s lunch.  He will be home from dialysis soon.

Take care of you and yours and let me know how things are going!

My Big Mouth!!!

Wow I said the wrong thing yesterday!  I no more than  said no snow and checked outside to see it coming down.  Four inches worth in our area.  Coming home from the hospital last night was a slow, careful, drive but I had no mishaps and breathed a big sigh of relief when I hit the top of my driveway!  The sun is shining now so I may attempt going back over today.

Jay has been tied up in procedures all morning so I’ll try, in a bit, to check on him.

A wonderful surprise this morning –a phone call from my eldest–he is back stateside and I’ll get to visit with him in a few days when he gets rested up and oriented to things.

Going To Be Busy!

Just an update on what is going on.  Jay is in the hospital with  a pneumonia flare up  and how long he will be there  depends on his progress.  He went in by ambulance on Wednesday morning and was admitted that afternoon.  I will be in and out visiting with him or keeping things at home under control so posting will be sporadic.  He will be fine and is feeling better already.  (Pity the poor nurses who may be talked to death.)  I even had to take the first seven jars of jam in (at his request) yesterday for the people caring for him.

Thank goodness there is no snow to battle!

Well my friend take care and I’ll be visiting again!

Middle Of The Night Ramblings!

Frost but no snow!

Good Morning on this bright, sunshiny, 24 degree, February day.  There is frost every where but it is slowly disappearing this morning.  It promises to be a nice quiet Sunday which is what I need today.

Yesterday from 12:45pm until about 4:00 was spent at the Park Plaza dialysis center in Flint while Jay made up his missed Friday session.  He was at Dr. Hukill office on Friday with extreme back pain which he had  had for a few days.  The doctor said something about a muscular/skeletal problem and prescribed pills to take explaining it was nothing to do with the dialysis treatment.

I started out reading, doing some fill it in puzzles, and then switched to crocheting.  When the nurses said I still had one hour and 40 minutes to wait I drove over to Sam’s club, which is close, and walked through there picking up a few things.  After he was done we had catfish with three sides and biscuits for dinner.  We then proceeded home where after unwinding a bit in front of the television it was bedtime.

At some where around 4 am Jay woke me in pain so I got juice and his pills.  I was awake then so I picked up and put back Molly’s cat toys that she had dragged into  the hallway, gathered the laundry then started it, and emptied the dishwasher I had started before bed.  I checked my e-mail, read my blogs, and played around five or so games of Free Cell. I went back to bed before 7 am and slept until around 8:30.

It plans to be a quiet day today barring any incidents.  I hope you will have the same.

Almost February!

A few minutes out to sit and warm up before I start the mending.  It is Monday so all the waste baskets were emptied, the bird cages cleaned, made sure that Molly’s litter box was in satisfactory shape and took the trash done to the road for collection tomorrow morning.  Starting next month collection will be on Monday so I have to (after 12 years) get used to Sunday night for the routine.

It is still snowing but Jay is feeling better and he did snow blowing before he left for dialysis this morning.

Well I’m thawing out so it is time to go find the denim to patch the elbows on another one of Jay’s lined flannel  shirts.  I will also be reworking Brandy’s pad for the console in the pickup.  There are a couple of pockets to stitch up on my flannel shirt and a tear on one of Jay’s shirts to fix  then I can put the old Kenmore away for a while.

I hope all is going well for you and that keeping warm is not a problem.

Christmas Came Again.

My friends down towards Ohio way sent a box  with Christmas presents and a nice letter explaining how they weren’t able to deliver the gifts in person.  First I have to say there is no reason to apologize for your absence.  You , like I,  have people who depend on you to be there when they need you.  I understand perfectly.

Next I have to show everyone the wonderful things that were in my box.

Blue, flannel, and I know warm--just what I needed.

I had to throw out one of my old ones (it was too drafty.)   This was an ideal gift my friends and will get lots of use.

Next

Baltimore Oriole (The Birds of beauty series for2011).

This is the seventh in the series and will take it’s place in the center of the pass through next Christmas.  Thank you Dar and Mike.

Last to tell you how well my friends know me.

A magnet for my fridge!

It couldn’t be truer!!!

Thank you again friends it was a lovely surprise!

Quality Of Life!

About to step into a new phase of my life!  This has to do with Quality Of life.  The meaning I never gave much thought to.  I have worked hard most of my life and accepted every thing that came my way as what I was due.  If it meant the simple things like carrying heavier loads I did it.  After all I was strong, therefore it was my duty to accomplish what others were unable to do.  I never gave a second thought to the consequences that would result later in life.

Now I find myself facing these results.  My right shoulder has a joint that is square–there is no ball and joint to allow comfortable movement.  Sleeping on either shoulder is uncomfortable and the things I used to do have become a chore.  Crocheting, knitting, sewing, and designing projects now take more effort then I feel I have the energy to expend.  It is much easier to lay and rest a while in the afternoon. My brain seems too frustrated about the lack of interest and I feel unfulfilled.  So my doctor has started me on the path to satisfy this need.  It won’t be easy–it will be painful but if it brings satisfaction and peace of mind it will be worth it.

My first surgery is in mid March and I’m sure you are going to wish you never heard of Momma when the complaining starts.   But I’m strong and determined to travel this road and at the end it will be worth it.

The Hunger Games!

Book Three of The Hunger games

Just closed the cover on book three.  It is a trilogy about a 17 year old girl who fights the establishment after the partial destruction of our civilization as we know it.  Of her feelings of helplessness and how she learns to use what she feels to inspire others to defeat an oppressive enemy.  It is fast moving, suspenseful,  and at times frustrating because the heroine seems to just shrink from her duties or be unaware of her abilities. Part of this is because this reader is 60 years older than the heroine. But this does not diminish the enjoyment of the story.  Try It You will like It!
