I’m two years old, black as coal, quite a Halloween decoration.
Be it moth, spider, or ladybug they all are worth the chasing.
“Meow” means pay attention, put food in my dish, or open the door to the basement.
“Merp” means mind the covers I’m on the bed, watch where you step, and I’m laying a glove on the casement.
In the morning I lead her out to my dish, to fill with fresh water for me.
To the pantry for food and back to the dish before she can make her coffee.
After breakfast we play what she likes to call ‘Momma’s gonna get your belly.’
She grabs for me, I drop and roll on my back looking really quite silly.
It’s her reflex test and my exercise all wrapped up in one.
If she’s not quick she feels the pain, but for me it’s always fun.
A car in the driveway means run to the door ‘cause a visitor needs investigation.
Because there is no dog it becomes my job to protect the whole situation.
So there you have my busy life I’ll tell you they keep me going.
Their love and attention, care and concern is something they’re always showing.
