I never saw myself as a grandmother. My sons had children that as babies were adorable, but that was their and their wives’ doing. You can’t take credit for that. I held, I kissed, and I loved those babies with all my heart but I didn’t quite connect with them. Even taking care of them still didn’t turn the light on.
It finally started to shine when I found I was needed to make something for them. I could buy many things, but to devote the time to making something seemed to register with doing for MY GRANDCHILDREN. Starting with nightgowns for Courtney. Then came knitted slippers for them all. Then costumes for clowning in parades, a poodle skirt for a dance, some miniature furniture for a doll castle, and dressup boxes for the girls. This was something I could do for them and to be a part of them.
Now the 15 turkey pictures from different places with directions on the back for the location to be placed tell me that I am an important Grandma. The cards from the store as well as homemade ones for my Birthday, Christmas, or just because they want to make something for me shows that I am an important Grandma.
What more can one ask for? Below is Dakota Cree one of my reminders.
