What a day that was! My Dad was flying home from California, my Mom and Wes were at Detroit Metro waiting for him and I was at Brent General Hospital also waiting for him. When he left for California to work there for a while he told me not to have the baby until he came home. I said at the time that the baby was due the first week of August and Dad wouldn’t be home until the first week of September. No way was I waiting for him. But by golly I did. Lesley was late and Dad flew in early. Lesley was born about the time Dad’s plane hit the runway. I was 32 years old and still taking orders from my Dad.
Lesley was my second son and a welcome addition to our little family. His brother was almost six years older and quite excited about having a baby brother. There was no doubt that Wes was happy to have Les come along. We made sure that Wes knew how important he was in Les’ life .
Now it is 37 years later and Les has turned into a computer whiz, a warm and caring (also very helpful) person, a very good husband, and a great and loving Dad himself. I remember the kid at the Commodore 64 for hours and wondered if he were going to marry a girl or that computer. I remember a little boy who was sometimes picked on by other kids but in the end turned out better natured than one would have the right to expect. I look now and see this man where my little blond son used to be and I momentarily wish him back .
Happy Birthday Lesley may there be many more and may you prosper with wealth, health, and love as each one comes!!
