The Journal story said he loved his family, his wife, and his customers. A odd thing to say about David Nash ? Not at all when you came to know him and his wife Dawn. Both work hard seven days a week 365 days a year. They delivered The Flint Journal in Lapeer and here in Forest Township.
David always had a smile, a word of encouragement, compliment for you every time he saw you and he saw us alot. He used to back into a driveway across the street from us to turn around at the end of his route. We suggested one day that he turn around in our yard to avoid backing up in the street. So when he came up to turn around he would hand us the paper if we were outdoors or toss on the porch. He had a safe place to turn around and we didn’t have to walk the roughly 400 feet down and back up the driveway. In return we sent jams home with him to the family. He would always bring the jars back, smile. and say how good it was or how the family liked it.
Last Thursday David was unusally late on his route and when I called his home I was told he had died sometime around 1:00 or 2:00 pm that afternoon. I didn’t call back because the situation had to have been difficult and confusing but left an E-mail for Dawn.
We learned Friday he had lost his life in an accident at the start of his route. Gone now is a loving Father, Grandfather, and Husband. But also lost is a man who cared enough about his work and for the people he served to go out of his way for them.
Our thoughts of comfort go out to his family.
Goodbye David and thank you for the pleasant memories.
