Happy Birthday America!
Sitting on the porch in the morning cool I casually read through the newspaper for any thing of interest. My attenetion was grabbed by an article on displaying the flag. It said that even on our Nation’s birthday more homes did not display the flag than those that did. It stated that it was a shame that men and women were fighting and dieing for freedom and the symbol of that freedom was packed in a box somewhere when it deserved to be flying on this day.
I looked at the butterfly hanging on my flag pole and the guilt washed over me. All right already I’ll get up, go get Old Glory and hang it up today.
As I hung my flag I thought this is a tribute to those people fighting for freedom.
Not to those who it seems daily try to take our freedoms away, one at a time and law by new law.
Happy Birthday America! We still love you but we hate what is happening to you!
