Little Things He Does For Me!

As we get older we look for things to make our daily tasks a little easier. One such thing was defrosting that meat, fish, or whatever that we forgot to pull from the freezer earlier. We found that using the defrost cycle on the microwave tended to make the item tougher or partially cook it. Then Jay saw a method on Alton Brown’s Good Eats on the Foodtv channel.  Placing the package of frozen whatever in a container of slowly trickling cold water allows it to thaw in half the time without danger of contamination due to a long period of exposure to warm air. That being solved we found that holding the package submerged in the water was a problem. We tried using a a plate, a pan, or other containers to keep the package submerge but nothing worked as well as this.

That is right! A trip to the local hardware for a two foot length of galvanized chain has done the trick. When turkey time come around we will get a longer piece of chain for more weight. That hubby of mine is thinking all the time.

The second item he came up with was strictly for my piece of mind. As I get older I take the things like parking and backing up a little slower to compensate for my reaction time. For some time now I have complained of cars racing through behind me as I’m backing out. But I can see them so I know enough to wait. My main concern were the people walking behind the truck after I have started to back out. They will actually dart around the back to get by before I complete my task. Now I don’t mean it takes me five minutes to back out. So when I look in the mirror and see a body just clearing the truck my first thought is that I could have hit them.

Jay went on line and found me a $10. item that peeps and an LED light flashes when the truck is put into reverse. I’m so excited I can’t wait to get out and try it out!

So it isn’t earth shaking news but hey-- I had to tell somebody!!!
