I Wish!
As the minutes slip away on a very difficult year for so many people I felt the need to take time to wish you a better 2006.
I wish you good health because without it life is extremely difficult to continue.
I wish you happiness because laughter is the release that everyone needs.
I wish you enough finances to live comfortably because excess breeds troubles.
I wish you the ability to succeed in all goals you have set for your self in the coming year.
Happy New Year Good Friends!
Forty-Four
On this morning in 1961 I had been married four years and was having my first child. To be a mother had been my only wish for several years and it was finally coming true at the age of 26.
Now he is 44 years old today and all the joys and tears through all these years has been worth it. He even says cheese like he did when he was two!
HAPPY ‘BRITHDAY’ (inside joke) WES AND PLEASE HAVE A HUNDRED MORE!
( And his button is true!)

Busy But Happy!
Our visitors on Tuesday afternoon were Dar and Michael from Holbrook, NY. They had supper with us then Jay and I decided it was time for a pinochle lesson. Neither of them had played it before but they were both willing to learn. Their next lesson will be in February when they revisit. The next morning it was Belgian waffles with strawberries, or a choice of syrups. Then they were off to Adrian.
Wednesday it was the ear doctor for Jay and I. I still say he has selective hearing because doesn’t hear a word I say. But Doctor said he was fine for his age. Those men really stick together. After the doctor appointment we went shopping at Sam’s Club without the truck breaking down. Maybe we finally broke the jinx!
Yesterday we bought the fixings to make lentil and barley soup with the Honey Baked ham bone but Jay didn’t start it until today. Yesterday was also pick up the 96 milk jugs along the driveway and take them to the basement. I had planned to remove the candle remnants and sift the sand back into the buckets. But it had rained Saturday and Wednesday so the sand was wet and the jugs had to dry out before I can sift it. So with Jay’s help they are sitting near the furnace for a few days .
Today with the snow pretty well melted and the temperatures in the upper 30s I decided that it was time to roll up the extension cords, and store all the outside decorations except for the lights on the roof line of the house. So Buck, Doe, and the sled are hanging on the wall in the basement so I don’t drive myself crazy trying to reassemble them next year.
I’m working on another project so I’m going to pick up the knitting needles again tonight for awhile. That is after I make lemon chicken for supper. I think a lettuce and fruit cocktail salad will go with it.
Tomorrow I start removing the decorations inside. It is Wes’ birthday but I think a phone call and a gift a little later in the week will have to suffice. Since the accident I have sprouted feathers when it comes to driving after dark. I’ll spend much of the day packing ornaments and do dads because Cindy and David will be up Sunday to help me take the tree down and stow the plastic bins away for another year.
It’s been a busy week but a happy one!

Head Start!
With the coming of the New Year the Doctor’s appointments start again. So to get a head start on the process I submit this to you!
There you must feel better already!!!
Christmas Eve II
With David behind the camera we didn’t get him in a picture this year. Sorry David but a big thank you also!
This happy duo are laughing over the fact that we are wearing blouses that we bought over 16 years ago. Throw them away--not on your life!
My brother Gene and Jeanie were with us again this year. I hope this will become a regular part of their holiday visits!
Les and family before they left for the long trip home!
Of course no holiday is complete without Richard spending time with us.
Wes and family before the tree.
And the “old folks”!
Our Christmas celebration brought to mind the phrase from a song.
Oh we ain’t got a barrel of money.
Maybe we’re ragged and funny.
But we’ll travel along
Singing a song side by side!
And that was the most comforting thing about the day--we were there together!!!
SOMEONE Said…
Somebody said it takes about six weeks to get back to normal after you’ve had a baby .
Somebody doesn’t know that once you’re a mother, “Normal,” is history.
Somebody said you learn how to be a mother by instinct ..
Somebody never took a three-year-old shopping.
Somebody said being a mother is boring ......
Somebody never rode in a car driven by a teenager with a driver’s permit.
Somebody said if you’re a “good” mother, your child will “turn out good.”
Somebody thinks a child comes with directions and a guarantee.
Somebody said “good” mothers never raise their voices .
Somebody never came out the back door just in time to see her child hit a golf ball through the neighbor’s kitchen window.
Somebody said you don’t need an education to be a mother.
Somebody never helped a fourth grader with her math.
Somebody said you can’t love the fifth child as much as you love the first.
Somebody doesn’t have five children.
Somebody said a mother can find all the answers to her child-rearing questions in the books ........
Somebody never had a child stuff beans up his nose or in his ears.
Somebody said the hardest part of being a mother is labor and delivery .....
Somebody never watched her “baby” get on the bus for the first day of kindergarten.
or on a plane headed for military “boot camp.”
Somebody said a mother can do her job with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back .......
somebody never organized four giggling Brownies to sell cookies.
Somebody said a mother can stop worrying after her child gets married ....
Somebody doesn’t know that marriage adds a new son or daughter-in-law to a mother’s heartstrings.
Somebody said a mother’s job is done when her last child leaves home ...
Somebody never had grandchildren.
Somebody said your mother knows you love her, so you don’t need to tell her .
Somebody isn’t a mother.
Pass this along to all the “mothers” in your life.
Have a Blessed Day!
Thank you Kathleen for sharing !

Christmas Eve 1!
Just a few of the shots from Christmas Eve!
Jasmine created this picture for me!
We are very casual at our gatherings!
The grandkids at the little kid’s table
The big kids at the big kids table. When there is fourteen of you it difficult to get everyone’s feet under the same table!
The stairway carolers sang Christmas songs for us!
We had a Merry Christmas!
My Cup!
For years on my route I carried a Coffee Beanery cup. It was like my right arm. The last thing I did before leaving for the newspaper was fill that cup with coffee.
I loved that cup even after Jay dropped it and it cracked badly. Fortunately it still kept my coffee warm. Unfortunately the Coffee Beanery change the design of the cup so i couldn’t replace it. So for over the last seven years I have carried this poor old cup every time I left the house. But yesterday I retired my old cup by throwing it in the trash.
My sweet hubby gave me a new one for Christmas! Thank you Jay!
Aunt Trudy!
Today we spent Christmas with Jay’s Aunt Trudy. She was married to Jay’s Uncle Chet in Germany and came to America as his wife. Chet died a few years ago so we try to keep in touch with her. Christmas Day has become kind of a traditional visit because we had our immediate family over last night. As I have in the past I took a picture with Trudy and the bookmark I wanted to give her.
So Merry Christmas Aunt Trudy!

Down To The Wire!
Oh boy getting down to the wire now! The cake is baked and frosted, the last gifts wrapped and under the tree, and the cookies have been plated! ( Don’t know if that is what I wanted to say--I meant I fixed a plate of them for each of my guests tomorrow--Guess you could say plated!) My 15 item list is down to clean out the magazine rack, chunk and bag the cheeses to go with crackers, get the mats down in the kitchen, and give the bathroom a refresh on the sink and tub.
Jay spent 50 minutes standing in line for the Honey-Baked Ham today. I must confess that I haven’t waited so long at a checkout in a department store since I was out buying a Cabbage Patch Doll for Cindy when they first came out years ago. I usually have figured out and purchased what I want at least two weeks or three weeks before now if I haven’t made things myself.
Well my friends it is almost 11:30 pm and the outside lights are still shining brightly (Consumers Energy is going to love me this month) so I have to go throw some switches and lay my weary body down so I can get up in the morning and get ready for my family to come and eat dinner with us. I do love Christmas Eve for that reason. So Good night and sleep tight!!!
