Another bookmark is going out to another lady who played an important part in my life.
I had visited with Bernice a year ago at Christmas time but this year I was unable to get down to her home in Detroit. As I have written before she was my immediate supervisor at Michigan Bell for some years. Her wisdom brought to me the knowledge needed to perform well as a supervisor myself. It also brought a friendship that I value highly even though we do not visit or communicate on a regular basis.
So in the mail tomorrow goes the letter and the token of friendship to Bernice.

It is hard to believe that this is the view of the backyard and pond from my deck on January 12th. Where did winter go? Consumers raised my monthly payment $26. in anticipation of a cold winter and oil prices. (Mostly the second reason I’m sure). Yet for the past few days I have watched the snow slowly fading into sad looking, sleeping grass. The debris from passing cars and trucks has made itself visible in the ditch in front of the house and the ice has turned to muddy water in the driveway. All this is a normal sign of spring in Michigan but with green sprouts of grass peeking up through the gray and brown of last year’s growth. But there is no green sprouts yet. Nor are there tiny buds on the bushes and trees. No Spring isn’t ready to don her bright green dress, dance across my yard, and call the flowers to awaken and reach for the sun. Old man Winter is just waiting to drop the other shoe!
