In answer to your questions.
When Wes’ family showed up my granddaughter Jasmin was carrying a box wrapped in home made wrapping paper that she and Dakota had made. She asked me to hurry and open this box first. She handed it to me. It was light but I didn’t feel any movement.  It was happening too fast to think about the contents.  I guess her urgency covered the movement when I took the box.  The rest is now history.

As to Molly she is now venturing into the room if Brandy is sleeping. But if Brandy is awake and tries to catch her to play Molly runs for the bedroom and hides under the bed. Brandy hasn’t explored the bedroom yet and she just returns to the living room.

The old grey elephant that we bought Spirit to keep him company when he was a baby is getting a real workout from Brandy.
But I guess the biggest thing is the couch pillow I threw on the floor when I put on a blanket to cover the couch. This has become Brandy’s favorite resting spot. We watch as she shifts to get comfortable and slides off on the floor. She crawls back up and goes back to sleep. As I watch I want to close my eyes also for a little snooze!

Surprise, Surprise!

The birthday celebration for the rest of my family was today.  Deb, Wes’ wife made lasagna, a salad and my birthday cake.

Everything was delicious.  I swear just six star candles blazed on the top of the cake but I felt like the table top was on fire.

Les, Anne, and Courtney gave me these lovely butterfly earrings.  They are going to get a lot of wear.

Wes , Deb, Jazz, and Dakota handed me a cardboard box.  I opened it and came face to face with Brandy!

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry!  Brandy is a seven and a half weeks old Shih Tzu.  The newest baby in Momma’s Corner --You going to be seeing a lot of her.

Of course right now Miss Molly’s nose is out of joint but hopefully they will soon be friends.

Fun, Food, And Friendship!

Almost three days of fun, food, and friendship.  It started with Tuesday afternoon with these beautiful roses.

They arrived with Dar and Michael who are visiting in Michigan from Long Island.  They had scheduled their visit to coincide with my 71st birthday.  Cindy joined us Tuesday afternoon to meet Michael and after a roast beef dinner prepared by my ever lovin’ we practiced our pinochle again.  Dar and I against Michael and Jay.  Cindy was acting as advisor to the new guys.  It was kind of a pre-birthday get together.

The next morning my live in chef served us that wonderful omelet again with bagels the visitors brought with them from New York. Dar and Michael took us to ‘Famous Dave’s’ for my birthday dinner that afternoon and I pigged out on ribs, Drunken Apples, corn muffins, and potato salad. I swear I could have used a sky hook to lift me off my chair at the end of the meal. Then it was back home where Dar, Michael, and I played three handed pinochle and Jay rested after his bout with an excellent bread pudding.  It was after 2 am before we got to bed.

This morning it was pancakes and bacon for breakfast.  For our lunch it was big thick burgers with grilled onions, portabella mushrooms, bacon, cheese, and bar-b-cue sauce. Our dessert was the pound cake and strawberry sandwiches again.  We spent the afternoon reminiscing and out visitors left a little while ago for the home here in Michigan for another couple of days before returning to New York state.

Update; This was my birthday from the Silver Fox

Hey I’m 71 but I can still appreciate a Hottie when I see one!!!!

Subject: Getting Old

This was an E mail I received yesterday from dear friend, Pamela---I wanted to share it with all of you so here you are!  Thanks Pam

A very elderly gentleman, (mid nineties) very well
dressed, hair well groomed, great looking suit, flower
in his lapel smelling slightly of a good after shave,
presenting a well looked-after image, walks into an
upscale cocktail lounge.
Seated at the bar is an elderly looking lady, (mid
eighties).
The gentleman walks over, sits alongside of her,
orders a drink, takes a sip, turns to her and says,
“So tell me, do I come here often?”

<><><><><><><>

An elderly gentleman had serious hearing problems for
a number of years. He went to the doctor and the
doctor was able to have him fitted for a set of
hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear 100%.
The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the
doctor and the doctor said,
"Your hearing is perfect. Your family must be really
pleased that you can hear again." The gentleman
replied,
"Oh, I haven't told my family yet. I just sit around
and listen to their conversations.
I've changed my will three times!"

<><><><><><><>

Two elderly gentlemen from a retirement center were
sitting on a bench under a tree when one turns to the
other and says:
“Slim, I’m 83 years old now and I’m just full of aches
and pains. I know you’re about my age. How do you
feel?”
Slim says, “I feel just like a new-born baby.”
“Really!? Like a new-born baby!?”
“Yep. No hair, no teeth, and I think I just wet my
pants.

<><><><><><><>

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's
house, and after eating, the wives left the table and
went into the kitchen. The two gentlemen were talking,
and one said, "Last night we went out to a new
restaurant and it was really great. I would recommend
it very highly.
The other man said, "What is the name of the
restaurant?"
The first man thought and thought and finally said,
"What is the name of that flower you give to someone
you love? You know… the one that's red and has
thorns."
"Do you mean a rose?"
"Yes, that's the one," replied the man.
He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled,
"Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to
last night?

Hospital regulations require a wheelchair for patients
being discharged.
However, while working as a student nurse, I found one
elderly gentleman--already dressed and sitting on the
bed with a suitcase at his feet who insisted he didn’t
need my help to leave the hospital.
After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly
let me wheel him to the elevator. On the way down I
asked him if his wife was meeting him. “I don’t know,
“ he said.
“She’s still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of
her hospital gown.”

Birthday Time---Yeah Baby!

Not only do I share a Birthday with good old George Washington but also with Marguerite Markell. Cindy’s other mother when I worked outside the home. Born on the same day, I in the morning and her in the afternoon. She lovingly called me the old lady!

Thanks to Diane I sent the pastel open work bookmark ( one on the bottom) to Marguerite for her birthday.

So it is a Happy Birthday to us and a happy ‘George Birthington Wash Day’ to you as my Mom used to say!!

Molly And The White Snake!

In search of the deadly white snake!

I see it.  Must be careful

I caught it!

I gotta rest a minute.  I have been chasing this thing for hours.

Now evil snake I will tear you limb from limb!

Oh heck I think I’ll just sit in the sunshine for a rest!

All this to save my family and they don’t even realize it!!

Anyone Else Like Me?

Well two days until our company from New York arrives again for another pinochle lesson. Yesterday big plans for house cleaning went astray when I rememberedStarz was having a free preview weekend. I sat watching movies from early afternoon till around midnight. That brought back memories of early satellite days when Showtime was one of our bonus channels. No commercials except between movies and those were advertising what what was showing on the previews this week end.

But alas I awoke this morning to the green slipper back on the bottom shelf of the computer desk even though I had put it back in the knitting/crochet bag yesterday and the feathers on a stick lay in the hallway at the bedroom door. The living/dining room still needs vacuuming , the kitchen and bathroom floors need mopping, and if I dusted you might be able to discern the color of the woodwork throughout the house. But no I pulled and laundered the sheets from the spare bed yesterday and that was it. I didn’t even remake the bed. Now that is real devotion to duty. If I were in the Army I’d end up looking like ‘Beetle Bailey’ this morning!

As I sit here visiting with you this morning one thought keep scrolling through my brain---I always work well under pressure---. Sadly I find myself creating this situation as a motivational means to accomplish tasks I don’t like to do but must be done. Then I stop to wonder --Is there anyone else out there like me?

But Molly Does!!!

Yesterday morning brought the amazing smell of scones to our kitchen. Back in October Jay had promised Dr. Ross that the next time he came in he would bring the office scones and raspberry butter.

True to his word this was the pan of two dozen heart-shaped raisin scones and the yummy raspberry butter. Of course the eight left over stayed home with us!

I know that I have written about Molly dragging her feather on a stick down the hall or into the bedroom at night. She also empties what used to be my crochet and knitting bag and hides the contents all over.  Her latest place was the lowest shelf on the computer desk.

All right maybe you think that a green crocheted slipper doesn’t belong on a computer shelf but Molly does!
