A Gift For Hubby!
Blue is my hubby’s favorite color and tomorrow he will be 66 years young. He has been using an old brown variegated afghan to wrap up in for a few years now. The yarn in this wrap has spots where it is brittle. I’d say it was time to fold it up and stash it for an emergency. So I have been working on a new one for him. It measures 58 by 58 inches, more than ample to snuggle in.
Happy Birthday is in order for May 30th, Hubby and the wishes for many more!

Reward Of Our Labor!
The rain is falling again this morning--no watering and no digging today.
During our walk out this morning for Brandy’s constitutional I spotted this delicate flower up in the berm.
The first of several Japanese Iris blooms. Debra brought the plant up for me from her neighbor’s house.
She said it was an ideal addition to the berm plantings and she was correct.
Thank you Debra and your neighbor.

A Take Care Weekend!
It’s Saturday and this week end I’m not looking at my ‘social calendar’ until tomorrow afternoon. Had to get a picture of the snowball bush before the flowers were all gone. It has grow alot since the storm split it a couple of years back.
Jay is 5 foot 8 inches so you can see how big it is! I guess I’m going to have to find someone to show me how to prune it back some.
Now the bush I planted to hide the pipes and electric meter is getting taller put still has a ways to go .
I could use some more lessons in ‘curb appeal’ even though Debra, my daughter-in-law, did a great job in improving the yard this last couple of weeks.
Brandy didn’t get to the Vet’s yesterday because her eye was looking a little better with the salve but it is not cleared up yet so next week if it is still in trouble I’ll take her.
Scheduled for today is work on Jay’s afghan. It won’t be done my his birthday but at least he knows he is going to get it.
It is raining softly so I don’t have to water. But this kind of day is whispering take a nap momma. So I have to really concentrate on that hook and yarn.
It is Memorial Day weekend so it is haul the flag out to display at the kitchen door. Many of you are taking to the road, despite the price of gas, so take it easy because I want to hear from you on Tuesday.
Also take a moment to remember those who have past on.

My Quiet Week.
I remember Sunday night thinking this coming week is a quiet one. The social calendar (the white book with the penguins on the cover that contains important things like the dates and times of doctor appointments, tests, salt delivery, going to the Vets with who, etc.) indicated a softener salt delivery that Jay would be here for because I had an appointment for a teeth cleaning.
Debra came up Monday to finish the gardens and I prepared to help her. While we were working outside I got a call from Davita. Jay’s arm had clotted up and they couldn’t do anything. So while I went to get him someone called his surgeon for an appointment. That night the office called to say we should be at the hospital by !:30 the next afternoon. So it was cancel the dental appointment and leave a note for the salt delivery man to put the bag on the chrome cart outside the garage door. Let me tell you lifting that bag off the ground is getting to be way too heavy.
Tuesday we arrived 1/2 hour early at the hospital because when you are headed down near Detroit on a weekday afternoon you don’t know how long it will take. Well the surgery before Jay’s ran over so to make a long story short we arrived back home after 8 pm.
This morning I had a Doppler on my legs and feet because the Doctor who saw me the other day didn’t like a few things and this was one of them. Seeing that Jay missed dialysis Monday I took him in today on the way to my appointment.
Tomorrow my brother needs to see his doctor in Lapeer so I volunteered to take him so Jeanie wouldn’t have to leave work early. (the least I can do during his difficult time).
Friday I’m due in at my doctor’s office at 8 am for blood work.
Yes so much for that quiet week!!!!

I Do Mean BIG!
I have tried to visit the last few days but every attempt was aborted by this!
But this morning I had something to say so I moved Molly and the chair out of the way. My old Operator’s chair will work just as well so here we go.
The rain has been impeding the continuation of weeding for me this week. It’s good for pulling them out but kneeling in mud isn’t my cup of tea. It didn’t rain Tuesday but three of Jay’s sisters came to visit.
In front from the left is Emily from Owasso, MI. and Linda in visiting everyone from Iowa. In the back row is Jay of course ( he is the one not wearing a dress) and Marilyn from Warren, MI. Jacki his other sister wasn’t present today. Jay and I made a scrambled eggs with mushrooms dish, sausage patties, and blue berry scones with lemon glaze for brunch. The girls spent about five hours with us before moving on to Jacki’s house.
On Wednesday I got a call in the morning that Jeanie had rushed my brother Gene to the hospital with what appeared to be a stroke. We drove over immediately but the hospital staff was running tests and observations unsure what had actually happened. He spent most of the day in ER not actually being aware of what was going on but obnoxious about everything.
We went back over yesterday and he was much improved but after two cat scans in two days we still had no answers. I well call today today to talk to him and if he is ok see him on Sunday. I’m sure there will be many scares like this before we are through.
Today the sun is shining but I have to take Brandy into the Vet’s for her shots so I don’t know if I’ll get to the gardens or not. Tomorrow Les and family are due up for a visit and to iron out some wrinkles in the new computer setup. Oh well the weeds have been there all winter so they aren’t going anywhere soon!
You know I’m just a little tired but I’m sure the stress is causing a lot of it. So I’ll pull up my big girl pants ( and I do mean BIG ) and get over it!!!

Five Years!
Just a moment to acknowledge that you and I have been meeting for five years now. Yes May 15, 2003 I introduced myself never dreaming that today I’d still be corresponding with you. So many friendships have developed, little gifts exchanged, and times when silence prompted us to check on each other. Yes we have definitely come to rely on each other for interests beyond our little worlds and isn’t that wonderful.
So my friends my wish is that in another five years I’ll still be around to share some time with you.

A Busy Mother’s Day!
Despite the fact that two of my off springs had to work today the oldest one and family came up to continue working on the flower beds. Debra continued to pull weeds, plant flowers, put down newspaper and cover it with top soil. Grand daughter Jasmine drove the tractor and trailer to haul top soil from the pile to where her Mom was working. Wes help Jazz fill the trailer, shovel the dirt out until the newspaper, trim scrubs, and help the haul the debris down to the chipper pile. This is the results of todays work.
Starting to the left of the driveway door that we call our front door.
Moving to your left the garden at the real front door that we never use because it opens into the laundry room.
Still moving left around the dome is the garden to the east side.
Continuing on around we have the garden under the bedroom window. This spot is half finished but we will get it done.
Next up is around the back near the deck. We had started on this one after we finished the berm the other day. We still have half of this one and the one on the other end to the deck on the other side of the kitchen door.
Yesterday Jay and I moved eight Lilac bushes (small) off the hill and down onto the flat area behind the dome. We placed them down the driveway to the shed. From that same hill area we moved three Redbud trees (small), one apple, and another Lilac placing them beside the drive that goes down to the shed then around to the garage under the dome. We left three Rhubarb plants up on the hill and one in the front garden because jam canning time is fast approaching.
Cards from my Long Island family, Les and family, and Wes’ clan are hanging on the dining room wall as is my tradition. Our dinner dishes are done and the leftovers in the fridge. I’m looking forward to a dish of ice cream later.
Well we still have some work left to do to finish up but right now I have to get out there and do the evening watering before it gets dark.
Hope your day was as full and satisfactory as mine. Let me know how it went!

Mother’s Day!
Today is Mother’s Day.
It is the day to remember the person who slap your butt when you acted up.
The person who kissed your owies even when your knee wasn’t a clean as it could be.
The person who kept all your report cards from kindergarten on.
The person who was stupid when you were a teenager but who grew very wise when you hit your twenties.
The person that would listen to you when no one else would.
The person who could always come up with a couple extra bucks when you were short.
The person that has all the pictures you drew, all the stories you wrote, even the cup you made for her in elementary school.
The person who loves you like no one else could.
Yes the person you’ve called mother, or mom, or momma.
If you are fortunate enough to have her still with you please take time to call her, send a note, or even better give her a big hug today.
The flowers are from Les, Anne, and Courtney. Thank you guys they are lovely.
Two Favorite Came To Visit!
Saw the first Oriole flying past the back door last night as I spoke with my brother on the phone. I know not such a big deal but I still get excited. As you know the nectar feeders for both the Orioles and Hummingbirds have been up in the tree for a couple of weeks now. I was concerned that changing them from the deck might result in losing the birds. But as I was outside on the swing with Brandy after watering the berm and the front garden I spotted it. A Hummingbird stop for a sip from the feeder before flying on. Good they found the feeders!
