Still On Hospital Time!
Yep, 5 am and I am up making coffee. Jay sets up the pot the night before and I just have to hit the button. Yesterday was an ‘ I almost slumped day’. Started feeling sorry for myself but just before the tears started I stopped to take stock. I just completed a week out of surgery, pain has not been bad, and only have five more weeks of playing Peter Cottontail and then I will be driving again. Steve my neighbor took care of getting the garbage out and the container back up from the road,. I haven’t run out of anything food wise yet and Les and crew will be up Saturday to take Jay shopping, put up my Christmas Tree, and generally reinforce our well being for another few days. I had received this beautiful bouquet from Bob And Maria (aka Silverfox).
The snow melted yesterday leaving a thin coat of frost on the deck this morning. I don’t know why I insist on getting up so early because I’ll be laying back down this afternoon for a while. I know I want to make out the checks for the bills this coming month, maybe do some Christmas cards, and work on my gift project some more. I have a couple of things that I need Courtney to help me with while she is here but basically we are just a little messy and you can still see the top of the dining room table. Between Jay and me the washing is caught up, sheets changed, and certainly no one is starving to death. So the slump slithered off into the night and the feeling --hey things ain’t so bad at all has set back in!
Yesterday both the visiting nurse and the physical therapist were in th see me. So I getting the attention I need for sure.
It looks like daylight is about to hit the swamps this morning ( as my Momma used to say) and another day is showing it’s face to the world. I think I’ll go out to the kitchen and pour a bowl of cereal and milk before the Cookie Hunting urge hits me. Have a great day and don’t forget the laughter and the lungs.

Two Happy Days!
From the Sweethearts in California a get well bouquet for me. It is beautiful. Thank you Maria and Bob. It was a joy talking with you on the phone yesterday Maria. Some people just make you feel comfy the minute you hear their voice. Like you I felt like my old friend or relative took time to chat with me. Certainly have made my day.
Brandy joined me again yesterday as I picked up the knitting needles. I had been waiting for Molly to abandon the Lazy Boy and as soon as she did I plopped down. Brandy came across the couch, up over the arm of that and the chair to settle in my lap. There she slept for quite a while. Such a change in temperament for her because she usually is all play. But I’m sure not complaining.

Cookie Hunting!!!!!
Good Morning! Just five days in the hospital and your system clock resets itself. In there at 5 am it was get a blood sample. At 6 am as you were just back to dreamland it was-- good morning Mrs. Axsom --sorry to wake you but I have some pills for you. By then all hopes of returning to that comfy spot called asleep were out the window. Now granted sometime between 8 and 8:30 am breakfast came and by then you were ready. The server placing the tray on your table was in dire danger of having an elbow gnawed off. Now back home you still wake at 5 but there is no routine to be followed so you read the paper, do a ‘fill it in’ or two, debate trying to fix your own breakfast, and then finally settle on a visit with you. Now I have more snowmen to make and a special project to complete but I haven’t had the inclination to pick up the knitting needles yet.
The Stryker Pump for pain ran out yesterday evening so that is no longer around my neck and hanging in the way. I had one pain pill yesterday and one again this morning so it isn’t too bad at all. The snow is still hanging around and a peek out the French Doors showed me a very busy Hairy Woodpecker working on the suet in the feeder. I will ask Jay to refill the thistle feeder this morning because my finches and chickadees are looking for more food.
Crawling into bed at 10 pm last night told me that I had not rested enough yesterday so I plan to remedy that today. I have to keep reminding myself that I ain’t going no where for another six weeks so there is no hurry to wipe up crumbs, try to vacuum up bird seed, or load the dishwasher.
I received my first Christmas card this year--it was from Jim and Kim Murphy as is the first one every year. Jim grew up in my old neighborhood and was friends with Wes, my oldest. I also got a get well card from Pammie and a sweet note from one of the women who rides the bus with Jay to dialysis. She is a bit slow so her three page letter took alot of effort to write. It is a comforting thought that a person you barely know spends time to wish you well.
Well it is around 8:30 am and I think I’m going to bid you farewell and go cookie hunting seeing Jay is still Sleeping.

Snow Through Screen!
Back home and I don’t know who is happier Brandy or me! I came in last night and of course there was a lot of sniffing of both me and wheelchair. Molly is tolerating It taking up space in her house but Brandy was a different story this morning. She beg to get up into my lap until Jay picked her up and put her there. Now Brandy never sit in my lap so I thought I’d have Jay get a picture for me.
I am still on a Stryker Pain Pump but it will run out sometime tomorrow,. Then I’ll have some idea of the pain level that I will have. That is when I may have to use some pain pills. The visiting nurse was already here this morning and will be back on Thursday. She also said a Physical Therapist is scheduled to come out this week.
. I asked Jay to put a little something over my feet last night because they were cold and when woke around 3 (something am) I found myself tangled up in three quilts and wondering if I would ever find the floor. But I was warm by golly!!
I was up at 6:30 am this morning and have been in the chair and on the walker several times since. I was going to sit on the ( don’t know if my spelling is something you sit on or something you ride in so I will use) davenport instead. But I was afraid that I couldn’t get the leverage to push myself into an upright position to use the walker. I gotta work on that one. I think however by the time a go back in for the other foot I will have more than enough upper body strength. Wheeling that chair around on carpet or basically jumping on one leg using that walker ain’t no easy task . But we will get it!
As to the weather here I just opened the French Door to get a picture. As you can see it is snowing and sticking. I couldn’t get up and open the screen so please forgive. Well my friends my bladder calls and if you will excuse the bad taste I don’t want to pee in my cast. I’ll be back!!!

Momma’s delayed ‘cause she’s workin’ out.
Hi folks! Les here with a quick note to let you all know that Momma’s surgery went well, but she won’t be home for a couple more days yet. The doctors have decided she needs to work out a bit to build up some upper body strength before sending her home. Doesn’t do her any good to be home if she can’t lift herself out of her wheelchair.
At this point it’s looking like she’ll be back home sometime on Monday. I know she appreciates everyone who stops by and would you to know she’ll be back to blogging as soon as she can. I know she has a lot of regulars who drop by daily so if any of you feel like spending a few bucks on a long distance call to her would like her phone number at the hospital just and I’ll pass it along.

No Excuse Just Bad Poetry!
I’m not with you yet today because I’m being released from the hospital. However that is no excuse for not wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!
With a big old belly full of turkey and dressing.
With hot rolls, potatoes, and green beans in there pressing.
With pies, green salad, and cranberries all looking for space.
Remember to give thanks with a smile on your face.
Be back to visit soon. MOMMA

It’s Right Foot Day!
Obliviously I have typed this entry ahead of time because I can’t be in two places at once. I can’t help but feel that I will be in the same condition as this good old turkey. Stuck some place where I really don’t relish being today but it will be worth it. A special request if you will please visit Jay’s Jammin’ if you will because he has to be at home while all this is going on. I know he would rather be with me but when your mode of travel is a pickup truck and you need a driver with you someone has to keep the home fires burning. Thank you.
Have a Thanksgiving poem for you tomorrow ( hey at least I tried).

Countdown!
Day after tomorrow I will probably resemble this poor fellow. But I’m ready for it. Yesterday it was vacuum the bedroom, living, and dinning room. Today it was mop bath, kitchen, and utility room. Also cleaned the bird cages, the covers, and the cat box. Washed the bathroom mats and the couch cover. The outdoor leash for Brandy is set up at the living room door so I can let her out when Jay isn’t here without stepping outside.
Jay was busy yesterday setting up the wild bird feeders.
He placed it where I could see the birds through the French doors again this year. I told him I couldn’t walk out to fill them and he said that was going to be his job. (Bless his heart! )
So there you have it my outside entertainment just feet away.
Also yesterday Cindy and David came up for a short visit. I had two hampers of her clothes ready to go home and it was decided that a pinochle was waiting to be played. Outcome --The ladies (and I use that term loosely ) won.
Tomorrow I take Jay down to Dr. Webb’s office for his post op checkup. On the way home I’ll stop by Pet Supplies + for a little more small hook bill feed. Then it is wash the sheets and do a last look see for anything else I can do before the surgery Wednesday. I have already set up posts for Wed. and Thurs. So you won’t get rid of me that easy.
If you get too busy to visit please have a happy Turkey Day!

A Little Gravy!
A glance at the thermometer on the porch was enough to send Brandy and I scurrying down the driveway to get the Sunday paper this morning. A crisp 29 degrees on this sunny morning is enough to make my shoulders hunch a little and a puppy to hot foot it along to get back inside. I was thinking as we walked this will be the last time for a while that we will make this trip together. But then Jay and she can walk down so she will still get to nose under the pine trees and try to investigate the side of the ditch out front.
Yesterday Les, Anne, and Courtney were up for dinner and to give the computers a kind of mini maintenance look see. Jay made a pork loin with delicious gravy, Anne and I shared getting the mashed potatoes ready, I roasted carrots( excellent taste), and had a lettuce and tomato salad, It was the day before Jeanie’s ( my late brother’s fiance) birthday and so Jay made her a cake.
Now the cake is a whole story itself. A Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cake, one of Paula Deen’s recipes. As Jay was mixing it up he saw it called for nuts in it. Now we had bought a package of chopped walnut the night before and I had put them on top the refrigerator so they wouldn’t get shoved in the cupboard. Well everything proceeded as planned and the cake was put in the oven to bake. I came along behind Jay to cleanup when I noticed this open package on the counter that needed sealing for storage. Upon closer examination I felt the need to ask Jay a question. “Honey do you always put Stove Top Stuffing in your cakes?” You should of seen the look on his face when I had him examine the unlabeled package. The new package of nuts still lay on top the fridge. I had crushed the stuffing mix up to use as coating for pork chops and resealed it in a bag for later use. Well we sampled the cake and it wasn’t half bad so we served it anyway. Everyone agreed that the dinner was great but Les said that the cake could have used a little gravy!
We sure know how to exercise the lungs with laughter around this house!
