Standing On My Own……

...Two Feet.  Yes it is swollen.  Yes it is stiff.  Yes it does hurts somewhat.  But it is ready to start working again.  This is the day I have been waiting for.  Twelve weeks that seemed like months in casts of different types.  But now it is done.  The x rays show a straight leg and corrected ankle.  Was it worth it?  Even with the work I’m going to have to do to feel comfortable walking and driving again.  I can say with a resounding YES!  As soon as we know that this leg is strong enough to take the beating my left one took getting around these last months then I will go through it again.  I am bound and determined to walk straight, with no limps, no pain, and for a decent distance when this is all done.

Today was an adventure however.  Daughter Cindy showed up at my house at 10 minutes after six this morning.  The snow was what we used to call ‘ass hole deep to a big tall Indian’.  Not the cleanest but surely the most accurate description of the conditions.  The trooper she is she got me the 59 miles in the snow and the coming daylight on time for my appointment.  We had a good two hours getting through the cast removal, x rays, discussing the results of the surgery with the doctor, and finally being fitting for the new boot that is designed to help me get through the swelling and stiffness until I’m used to walking with no cane, walker or cast.  I don’t have to wear the boot all the time but I need some time in every day.  I looked down at that thing and all I could think of was the soldiers in the white outfits in STAR WARS!  The urge to mutter “I am Your Father Luke” raced through my weak little mind and I wanted to giggle but no one would understand my glee.

So my friends so ends one saga of an old bat’s life and the beginning of another.  Stay warm, smile a lot, and even laugh out loud ‘cause it is good for the heart and the soul!  Be back soon!
