I came home on Thursday expecting to walk around like nothing had happened. Sure they gave me a boot to wear --but said I didn’t have to wear it all the time.
So Friday I got up put on the boot and wore it for three or four hours. I decided then I would take it off and wear my slippers for a while. Sometime in the afternoon I broke down and called the Doctor’s office. My leg was swollen half way up the calf and the pain was really getting to me.
The nurse listened to my problem and then patiently explain that the boot must be worn every time I am walking--at least for the first week or two. The name of my boot is an Air Cast. My leg has had help for several weeks from casts and even though the bones are healed the leg still needs to be (for a better word) weaned away from the support.
So this morning I took my first full shower, then put Vaseline, also a clean sock on said foot, strapped on the Air Cast and have worn it all day. The pain has been minimal and I can see that the cast works well. So this will be the routine for a few days then we will start increasing the time out of the cast until we can go all day without it.
I have to pay attention or pay the price I guess. But it won’t be long my friends before I can butts if I have to.
